Festival Queen for Kingston and St Andrew and JAYECAN culture Member, Michelle Thomas represented Jamaica last week at the Youth Event and Seventh Global Forum of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) in Baku, Azerbaijan.
The forum discussed peace building strategies and global issues under various themes. Thomas , who was selected among 6,000 applicants and was the only Jamaican to be apart of the prestigious initiative, participated in plenary and breakout sessions.
The Youth Event was a unique international opportunity for young people’s civic and intercultural participation. It brought together 150 international and local youth aged 18-35, selected based on their membership in youth-led organizations/networks/initiatives and their commitment to diversity and pluralism, nonviolence, peaceful and inclusive societies.
The event sought to maximize youth’s experience and contribution to the Forum, to facilitate learning, sharing and partnership building. Its main aim was the production of Narratives of Tomorrow, which will articulate participating youth’s vision and solutions for the world to “live together in inclusive societies” in order to chart the course for the way forward.
